Our innovative app brings the characteristic sound of a wind turbine directly to you - and relates it to other everyday noises. By combining different sound sources with the typical operating noise of a wind turbine, the app offers a unique listening experience. The range of superimposed sounds extends from conversations to the idyllic backdrop of a flower meadow with a nearby stream to everyday and traffic noises. The sound recordings were made in spring 2023 at a VESTAS V150 wind turbine in Lower Austria. This wind field comprises a total of six wind turbines with a hub height of 166 meters and a rotor diameter of 150 meters. The images were taken at distances of 100, 500 and 1,000 meters from the wind turbine. The app was developed by a multidisciplinary team with the aim of raising awareness of the acoustic presence of wind turbines and enabling a direct comparison with the sounds of our surroundings.
